ZTE and Others Bid for Patents of Nortel

June 13, according to foreign media reports, Microsoft, Apple, RIM, Ericsson, Intel and ZTE will bid with Google for Nortel’s patents. The company which wants to participate in the auction should submit an application before 16:00 pm. EDT. US. next Monday.

  Apple, RIM, Ericsson, Intel, ZTE declined to comment on this while Microsoft said in a statement: "according to the patent cross-license agreement Microsoft signed with Nortel in 2006, Microsoft can have permanently free access to all patents of Nortel."

  The Canadian telecom equipment maker Nortel Networks announced bankruptcy protection in January 2009 and began to sell its assets in batches 6 months later. This month, it will sell its last core asset, including thousands of technology patents and patent applications.

  Under the current rules, if Nortel and its creditors agree, the auction scheduled for Monday afternoon can be postponed. The auction will be held on June 20. Nortel needs to announce the starting price at least one day in advance. Pursuant to the rules, Applane, RIM, Ericsson, Intel and ZTE's bid price should be higher than or equal to Google's 900,000,000 dollars, otherwise the auction will fall through.
