Moutai redeems "Feitian" trademark

On December 22, an insider of Maotai broke the news that Guizhou Oils & Foodstuffs Import & Export Corporation has transferred the "Feitian" trademark to Kweichow Moutai Distillery Co., Ltd., thus ending the 20 years payment for using the trademark. The transfer price was not disclosed.

"In the planned economy period, Maotai factory was only responsible for production according to the institutional division of labor, and products sales was taken charge by the foreign trade sector," the source told reporter. Therefore, the "Feitian" trademark passed from Chinese Cereals and Oils Import and Export Corporation, Guangdong Foodstuffs Import & Export Company, Guangxi Cereals Oils & Foodstuffs Import & Export Company and finally to Guizhou Oils & Foodstuffs Import & Export Corporation. To gain the trademark ownership, Moutai has "petitioned" to competent authorities for several times.

It is reported that the "Feitian" trademark with registration number of 237040 has been transferred with the completion of all formalities. After getting back the trademark ownership, the company will license it to Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd. for free.

But it is worth noting that this transfer only referred to the domestic trademark ownership, "and the trademark rights in some foreign countries are still in the hands of Guizhou Oils & Foodstuffs Import & Export Corporation, and in the future the trademark transfer may continue." the source said.

As redemption fees were not disclosed, the actual value of the trademark has become a mystery.
